Get Hughes Net Satellite Internet

August 26th, 2009

Satellite technology is the vital communication technology, which would also be providing access to the Internet. In fact, Hughes Net has made satellite Internet connections accessible to a variety of home and business users all over the country. There are a number of advantages of using satellite technology from Hughes Net for Satellite Internet service. The most obvious advantage is that satellite technology can move huge amounts of data in very short periods of time.

Hughes Net can provide home users with download speeds of up to 1.5 megabytes per second, while business users can enjoy download speeds of up to 2 megabytes per second. It means that even the largest digital photographs can be downloaded almost instantly, and it will finally make sense to download video from the Internet. Even though upload speeds are slower than the download speeds, you still won’t have any trouble sharing your own digital photos and even large video files with friends or business contacts. While high connection speeds are great, the fact that satellite Internet service from Hughes Net is available just about everywhere in is also a huge benefit.

DSL Providers: Innovations and Challenges

August 21st, 2009

DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) is one of the several technologies by which you can access Internet connectivity. There are many advantages if you are using a DSL connection. DSL connectivity offers 25 times faster Internet access speeds than dial-up modem, connecting multiple computers on a single DSL line, rare chances of sudden connection drop, and cost effective and 24/7 uptime service level agreements. Any prospective customer would surely get excited when so many features are offered on a platter. Unfortunately, there are infrastructure challenges for DSL providers and subscribers mainly with the service range of the company offering the DSL service. A customer who stays in rural areas may not get DSL Internet because there is no phone company close by. The root of the problem lies with the infrastructure investments that are required for offering services to far-off places. Companies offering DSL services do a cost benefit analysis before they start offering service in some particular area. If there are not enough customers interested in DSL it would not be financially feasible for a company to make investments in infrastructure.

Fair Internet access for all HughesNet subscribers

August 18th, 2009

To make sure fair Internet access for all HughesNet® subscribers, HUGHES maintains a Fair Access Policy (FAP). This policy establishes an unbiased balance in Internet access across satellite broadband services for HughesNet subscribers. To ensure this equity, customers may experience some temporary throughput limitations. HughesNet Satellite Internet access is not assured. This policy applies to all service plans including “Unlimited” plans where subscribers’ use of the Service is not limited to a specific number of hours per month. HughesNet system usage data indicates around 5% of subscribers are responsible for a disproportionate share – often as much as half – of the total HughesNet service traffic. Unfortunately, many of those subscribers are not using HughesNet for its intended purpose. To ensure that all HughesNet subscribers have fair and equal access to the benefits of the Satellite broadband service, HughesNet has enacted a Fair Access Policy to prevent abusive consumption of bandwidth by a handful of users.

FAP (Fair Access Policy) is straightforward: based on an analysis of usage data, Hughes Network Systems has established a HughesNet usage threshold well above the maximum typical usage rates. When a customer exhibits patterns of system usage which exceed that threshold for an extended period of time, the FAP may temporarily limit that subscriber’s throughput to ensure the integrity of the system for all HughesNet subscribers.
Typically, the restrictions will be lifted within 8-12 hours of the original application of the FAP if the customer’s usage in this period stays below the FAP threshold.

During this recovery period, the HughesNet service may still be used, but speeds will be slower. Web browsing, for example, will be significantly slower than subscribers’ normal browsing experience. Subscribers will return to normal download speeds after the recovery period as long as they minimize their bandwidth-intensive activities. If they continue these activities during this recovery period, reduced download speeds may continue beyond 24 hours.

Limitations Of Satellite Internet

August 12th, 2009

Even after the latest technology and latest equipment used by HughesNet, it does not recommend for some sub-second time-sensitive types of Internet uses such as playing “twitch-games” and time-sensitive “online” trading. The latency (sub second delay) of satellite Internet access affects connection speeds. Latency refers to the time it takes for signals to travel to and from the satellite. This round trip adds about a half a second delay to the total time your computer takes to communicate with a Website or host server. While this sub second delay is usually unnoticeable, but in case of time-sensitive applications it may impact significantly. So we don’t recommend following applications for use over HughesNet:

  • Playing twitch-games such as Quake, Diablo etc.
  • Conferencing such as NetMeeting or videoconferencing.
  • VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) Internet phone service.
  • Time-sensitive online trading.
